The new area of the Ristiniemi cemetery has been designed for urn graves. The memorial plaques of the deceased will be attached to common memorial plaques. In addition to the intended use of the area, an important starting point for the design has been the nature and environment of the site. The area is located on a naturally beautiful pine-forested slope on the low Lupinlahti shore.
The goal was that the tranquility and simplicity of the pine forest would also be carried over to the new urn grove area. The park-like nature of the area was intended to also become a place of spiritual recovery.
The most visible landscape elements of the urn grove are the massive granite retaining wall. The sturdy massive memorial plaques are sculptural. Massive granite columns decorate the upper platform, where the stairs lead down to the urn grove area. A curved pond has been built in the center of the lower platform, from which the surrounding nature is reflected on its mirror surface.
The landscape plan for the urn grove has been prepared in collaboration with Heikki Laaksonen.
The urn altar was built by Kymen Granite Oy.
